Nougat 18

Many of you have wondered about the origin of this ministry’s name. It’s based on the premise found in Today’s Holy Nougat. I pray that as we reflect, you will be impacted also.

Ezekiel 3:1-2 NIV‬

[1] And he said to me, “Son of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll; then go and speak to the people of Israel.”

[2] So I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat.

Holy Nougats

According to Wikipedia, a Nougat is ‘a family of confections made with sugar or honey, roasted nuts, whipped egg whites, and sometimes chopped candied fruit.’ It seems Nougats originated in Persia and made its way across to Europe with the Arab traders. These days, Nougats are popular at Christmas.

Interestingly, a steinsfoods.com blog purports that with the naturally-sourced fibre, protein, and vitamins, coupled with fruits & nuts (e.g., raisins, cranberries, and almonds), there is potential for Nougats to lower cholesterol. In short, despite the sweet content, Nougats eaten in moderation are healthy. Go figure!

And that’s the confection.

If we apply the basic information about the Nougat to scripture, we realize that it (scripture) is laden with spiritual vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, and all we need to keep us spiritually fit. But first, like the prophet Ezekiel, we ought to imbibe (eat) and properly digest what God’s Word is saying to us. Pray of the digestive process for us as believers involves interpreting what is written and applying it to our lives.

And hopefully, by virtue of your taking time to read these reflections (since the devotional began 9 years ago), you have been doing just that. In pausing to reflect with me, several of you have offered even your own insights, affording is all to grow together. (May God add increase to our wisdom and understanding as we read). It is my prayer that we not only read and reflect, but that we are applying the insights to our various situations, finding the strength to overcome the enemy.

My prayer for us is that like Ezekiel, we will eat that which God offers us, finding nourishment in the scroll, our Holy Nougat. God bless you in your reading and reflection.
