Hi there
Sometimes our Hineni May be a bit weak, as we aren’t sure God chose the right person or we want more details or we don’t feel spiritually strong enough for the unknown. Could God be seeing us in slightly different ways? Consider today’s Holy Nougat
“I am the God of Beth-El where you anointed a memorial stone, where you made a vow to Me. Get up now and leave this land, and return to the land of your relatives.’”” Genesis 31:13 TLV
You know, God’s introductions are special. For only God would remind Jacob of God’s identity by taking him back to the place they first intentionally met. And of course, it wasn’t any old meeting place; it was that place where God established the personal covenant with him. The place Jacob had renamed ‘Bethel: the house of God’.
God does not leave Jacob to try to guess what ensued there, it is spelled out – you made me a vow, said God. It’s time for you to move on.
Hmmm
Remember, Laban was preoccupied with making life more difficult for Jacob; life was not rose petals only. God’s call was not just timely in reminding Jacob that it was time to move out in faith once again; it was also a affirmation of Jacob’s faith in God, birthed at Bethel.
At Bethel, he began to trust God to provide. Bethel was just a mile marker … a stone of commemoration; but Jacob saw it as God’s dwelling place; where he was under the open heaven. And that’s the Jacob God desired to awaken once again. Jacob lied, cheated, left town and then ‘served time’ under Laban – he was not the picture of innocence! Yet God loved, provided for, and protected Jacob. As God does for you and me.
Now that is amazing!
Is God waiting for us to remember our Bethel experience; where we met God personally? What vow did we make with God there that needs revisiting? Is this our time to get up and go?
