Hi dear
How are you? Blessed and blessing I hope. As we reflect on today’s Holy Nougat, might we think about our call to God’s work.
“Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob,’ and I said, ‘ Hineni.’”
Genesis 31:11 TLV
That word – Hineni. Here I am.
A response of obedience and surrender, used very sparingly in the Bible; and even then is a precursor to some very profound call on the life of one of the saints. Like Abraham, when called before sacrificing Isaac. One commentary suggests that it isn’t just about a profound call; it is instead about the respondents’ yearning for more … God-ness in their life. A willingness to forfeit/forego everything for the Cause. God’s cause. (Or, as we’d probably say these days, the cause of Christ).
Of course we can argue that Jacob had nothing to lose; Laban was beginning to show him the evil eye; so he was better served by leaving. But folks, this is Jacob we’re speaking of. His surrender to God, even if only for the sake of convincing his wives, is noteworthy. Especially since he wouldn’t know how they would respond to leaving the only home they had ever known. Even as Jacob’s wives, they’d only changed tents! They would have to forfeit the comfortable and familiar for Jacob’s family who had virtually banished him from home.
From what are we being called today? To what? When; rather if we respond Hineni to God, let us consider – are there others who will be impacted by our obedience and submission to God? And further, are we prepared to share God’s vision with them? Whatever the vision; wherever we are sent: Hineni
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
