Hello
Greetings. Got niggles about ministry and desire clarity? Please consider today’s Holy Nougat
“he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to enter the sanctuary of the Lord and offer incense.”
Luke 1:9 NRSV
I am struck by the fact that there were enough priests available for service in the temple in the time of Gabriel’s visits. So many that at least in the clan of Abijah, they were chosen by lottery. Added to that is the knowledge that there were 24 Aaronic clans among the Levites who were responsible for preparing the temple for worship. Isn’t that something!
Now consider, these were not the High Priests, these were simply temple staff who ensured that the temple was up to par on a daily basis for the other priests to minister. (And before anyone should try to say this was under the Jewish/Hebrew covenant era, let’s remember that there were seven deacons assigned to assist the growing church in Acts).
I dare to postulate that our God desires that many of us would heed the call to ministry. This is not only for preaching or the so called glamorous aspects of ministry; but to be involved in repairs, replenishing stock and regular cleaning responsibilities. For God would that our worship involves every aspect of our lives; and not only the elements visible to the public.
The house of God requires labourers for every facet of ministry. Brother Lawrence, a priest, proposed that we ought to practice the presence of God, which means we find God in the lowliest of tasks. Then we can honour God in worship as we perform them to our best ability. What a radical idea eh.
Yet, we know that it was when he ministered before God in the mundane that God confirmed hearing Zachariah’s prayer and the intent to respond with a yes. We also know that Stephen’s ministry flourished AFTER he accepted the role of support staff.
Could God be calling us to ministry of the small things? Hmmm. Prayerfully ponder whether God is calling personally today.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
