There are days and there are seasons. And then there are days that are multiple seasons! When faced with those multi-season days, the natural inclination is to deal with the seasons in our own strength, forgetting that God is in the mix. Today’s Holy Nougat™️ is a reminder that we ought to hand seasons to God.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Trusting God

In the midst of a potentially rough patch a friend was challenged to trust someone’s actions. Immediately after saying ‘Trust me’, the person followed with the statement, ’and if you don’t trust me, trust God who sent me.’ I can only imagine what it cost my friend personally and spiritually. It is not always easy for us to believe others, place our life outcomes in another’s care, or, more importantly, allowing someone to take control. Yet we do so on a regular basis.

Whether it is public transportation, medical decisions, manufacture and repairs of appliances, equipment or vehicles, we are obliged to allow others to direct our lives – even if it’s indirectly. Of course, in instances where one person makes a blunder, trusting them or others in similar positions as the blunderer is difficult. It may be because their blunder causes us to question our judgement – did we not see signs that suggested all was not well.

For some of us, that becomes not only a question about our culpability and naïveté but it also gives us a moment’s pause. We find ourselves questioning God’s sovereignty, omnipotence and even God’s omniscience. We wonder, if God is truly sovereign, God would have had better control over our situation. We search Scriptures and see the mighty hand of God, and we question God’s power in this season. We look at the sequence of events and consider that maybe God isn’t seeing as God should.

And if we had the conversation with God and hung around to hear God’s defense; we might be surprised to hear, ’Trust the Process.’ Or, as my aunty once said, it’s not how it looks it is.’ (Things aren’t always what they seem). What does that mean practically, you ask. Exactly what our Nougat says.

Don’t for one second think we’ve got all the answers.

Give God the chance to be God, even if God’s not as transparent as we expect God to be.

Spend time in God’s presence to discern what we ought/(not) to do.

Already begin to give thanks, despite.

And remember Trusting God can be defined from the acronym TRUST: Take Refuge Under Spiritual Truths ie God’s Word, God’s promises.

And in the meantime, trust God’s process. I will work on it too.

May all we seek be found in Christ
