Hi dear
Not only do all living things eat, they also excrete. Excretion is the process of removing waste from one’s system. Us humans have an excretory system that utilizes different organs in specific ways for waste removal. These include the skin, liver, lungs, large intestine and kidneys, and remove sweat, CO2, fats, alcohol and drugs, urea, and undigested (and wasted food). If any of those organs malfunctions, we’re usually in big trouble.
With the multiplicity of temptations that come our way (especially since we often yield to temptation), it is also important that we also have a way of removing spiritual waste build up. I would dare to suggest that we also have a spiritual excretory system. Excretion is not easy, may even require sacrifices, as sin often feels good now, but carries deleterious long term effects on our spiritual lives. But there is a way out.
My theory is that God’s Spirit provides the first warnings to our spirits and then we determine the course of action, just as we do with our own body functions. Consider today’s Holy Nougat
“Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Psalms 139:24 NLT
As spiritual babies, we are often unaware of what Displeases God. And since God doesn’t abide with sin, then God’s Spirit nudges us to say, ‘My dear, that is sin, it’s gotta go!’ Then it is up to us to eliminate it from our spirits. That’s where the Prayer of Confession comes in.
The Prayer of Confession usually follows the sin we have committed. We lie, we confess. We steal, we confess. We commit adultery, we confess. Those are some of the easy ones. Yet we often allow them to build up, creating toxic spiritual blocks in our relationship with Jesus. We can sense the difference in our relationship. When we do and can’t remember what all we did wrong, we ask God to reveal our sins, as we see in the sample today.
If we keep committing the same sin again and again, we run the risk of making the root of the sin a god to us. Those are toughies, in the sense that while Adonai sees ALL sin as offensive; us humans don’t always see what we’re doing when the sin builds up and becomes a god to us. That includes putting Work before God’s will, addictions of any kind, as well as taking God for granted. It would seem as though those ones creep up on us and we don’t even realize when they took root in us. (The truth is, God’s Spirit continued to warn us, but may have been silenced by our desires).
It is possible to get rid of those ‘besetting’ sins also. However, they might require some reinforcements. As in God’s Spirit commanding the sin out. Some believers are specially anointed to recognize and command those out of our souls.
To prevent long term, eternal damage to our souls, when the waste (sin) is removed, we Must fill up with the Spirit of God. Matthew 12:43 states that the sin intensifies when God’s Spirit is not in place to protect us. Rather than allow our souls to get to those levels of spiritual blockage; we are better served by confessing our sins in prayer upon conviction.
Which brings us back to the nougat. Right now, I urge us to pray for God’s revelation of our sins. And, having heard from God, let’s confess our sins and ask that God creates clean hearts in us and renews within spirits (souls) attuned and obedient to God’s direction (Psalm 51).
Let us pray:
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
