Hi
Today’s Reflection
May 14
But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well. Mt 6:33
So the call is not only that I strive for God kingdom; but also God’s righteousness. Wow! Righteousness is one of the descriptors used for the Lord. Jehovah Tsidkenu. Obviously, it’s an integral aspect of God’s nature, for in the name, God is recognized as the One who makes us/secures our sinless, cleansed state; a premise reiterated in the New Testament.
This was a radical concept as it has very clear messianic images. Essentially, the Jews (& now us) were being urged to work hard to attain God’s kingdom, AND Jesus Christ, the source of God’s righteousness. In other words, there is access to God’s kingdom, but sinlessness is through the Anointed One. If it was lost to a few of the Jews, I suspect some of us could just as easily miss the call.
It’s about relationship, between individual us-es and the Sinless One who became THE scapegoat for our individual and collective sins.
Selah (pause and let that soak for a while).
How’s your striving?
