Nougat 14

Amidst the hustle bustle and Today’s Holy Nougat invites us to prayer and contemplation.

“it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” ‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭26‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The Lord’s Salvation

Matthew and Luke’s Gospels tell us that when the confirmation of Jesus’ incarnation was shared with His parents, His name was clearly an expression of His task: Y’shua (Jesus) would save humanity from the consequences of our sins. And of those we have many. We know firstly that sin begets Death – physical and spiritual (see Romans 6:23) – through our separation from God. And since all humans have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, (see Romans 3:23), we are in dire need of redemption/salvation including from ourselves.

Jesus, being fully God, though exposed to sin, was sinless when He became human. Yet, like the ceremonial scapegoat, Jesus, God’s Salvation, assumed our sin, in order that we might access and accept God’s grace that reconciles us back to eternity with God. Our task therefore is to identify where we continue to fall short of God’s glory and confess our sins (to remove the obstacles and the hold sin may try have over us); and to invite our Savior to repair the breach between us and God.

Since that final act of reconciliation and forgiveness is only visible after physical Death or after Jesus’ return, then it requires waiting. And in this instance, waiting is an act of faith. Yet, though we ‘quietly’ wait, it doesn’t mean that we’re inactive. For a mother awaiting child birth doesn’t sit still all 9 months because she is with child. Rather she (and her body) makes the necessary physical, emotional, and material preparations for the anticipated child. (One mother indicated that close to the time her body feels heavy and ready to expel the babe, would that our hearts also clue us in when Jesus is due to return).

So we make ready by reading God’s Word, relating to and deepening our relationship with Jesus, our Savior and our Peace through prayer. I pray we can make time today to do them all.
