Hello
Can I ask you a question? What is the status of your financial situation? I know, I know; it’s personal. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take a long hard look at where you are at and act accordingly.
Today’s Holy Nougat gets right to the point.
“Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender.” Proverbs 22:7 NLT
One of the things that strikes me with this statement is that it basically goes against what most financial institutions promote. Yet very few of us seem to notice. Just think about the institution which manages your financial affairs, what is the major product for them these days – credit. Mortgage companies, pay day loans, credit unions, building societies and banks are mostly in business to ‘offer’ more money to us than exists on our accounts.
But most of us (okay, some people) are not good at managing our finances. We get sucked in by all sorts of nonessentials, or by the desire to be like everyone else, without consideration for the cost. And, when what we owe far outweighs what we earn, we are at risk of losing everything; including ourselves and/or all we were trying to accomplish.
This is not God’s desire for our lives. It cannot be! There MUST be another way.
God’s way has one clear guideline; the one who borrows is beholden to the one who lends. Do we truly know who it is that we borrow from? Or what their ‘pound of flesh’ (the consequences of overextending) is? More importantly, do we truly need to be beholden to them, or can we manage our income to reduce our ‘credit’ transactions?
How addicted are we to spending (including online shopping)? Are we trying to save while we earn? Are we constantly in debt (or paying ridiculous interest rates for loans which are one third the total monies paid back)? Are we remembering to tithe – ie share with God’s family a tenth of our income? And have we asked God to be our money management company?
Good morning
