Good morning
Today’s Holy Nougat invites our consideration for others and their unspoken prayer requests.
“The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.”” John 2:3 NLT
It wasn’t Mary’s wedding to Joseph. She could have chosen to be a bystander and draw attention to the wine shortage with friends. She could have opted to argue that the guests were too ‘licki-licki’ and decided it served them right. She could have been indifferent and allow those concerned to ‘seek their salvation’ (ie solve their own problems).
But she didn’t.
Mary got involved. She knew the Problem Solver personally. She went directly to Him. It doesn’t seem like she broadcasted her plans to anyone else; she simply followed through.
When life happens, and the wine goes low in someone else’s life, how do we respond? Do we immediately determine that it’s not our problem and disappear like the sun in a thunderstorm? Are we filled with criticism, using the opportunity to shame the unfortunate? Do we join or initiate public opinion polls which vilify somebody-anybody; so long as it’s ‘hot’ news?
Or do we privately go to the Problem Solver?
If/When we go, our request can be simple. We go straight to the heart of the matter like Mary did. She’d already invested much in her relationship with Jesus, so her ‘prayer’ was quite short – there’s no wine left. No instructions on how to get more wine; no personal heroics. She interceded and left it in Jesus’ care with the FULL confidence that He would do what was needed.
And we should too.
Whether we have seen Jesus in action in a very public way or not.
And if the wine has run out in our lives and someone chooses to seriously intercede on our behalf; consider ourselves blessed; help is on the way.
Praying us to be filled with new wine!
