I remember once taking someone to task for the wrong they were doing; and being gobsmacked by the response. Naturally, I took offense, and might still be offended even now (The fact that I still remember the details makes me wonder about lingering resentment. Help me Lord!), if I’m not careful. On reading today’s Holy Nougat, I wonder how God feels when I mess up
“Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Psalms 139:24 NLT
This is a strong request.
Not for the faint of heart. Although it’s not a covenant, it sure is binding. Can you imagine – intentionally asking God to tell us the truth about our sinful selves! So that we might repent of those ways? To think we’d be living God’s way and not ours?
Are we truly ready for this?
And when we are confronted with our sin, do we confess and repent – as in, change our behavior with God’s help – or do we ignore God’s voice, praying that we won’t be held accountable?
For the issue is, most of us are not truly ready to be divorced from sin, even though we desire eternity with Christ. That is the painful truth for many of us. But what if we tried God’s way? If we faced those truths about our lives and confessed our need for God’s help in true repentance? And found ourselves walking away from the old ways? What if difference that would make!
Now I’m obliged to try it for myself, and that includes letting go of real or imagined offenses towards me. For if I can’t forget one thing my friend tells me; how will I hear God’s reprimand or expect to be extended grace?
Search us please Jesus, and know our thoughts. Convict us when we sin; that we might move to confession and repentance more willingly. Thanks for Your patient love that does not condemn us as our sins deserve, but came instead and became sin for us. Forgive our stubborn sinfulness we pray please Jesus amen
