Hello
The cold is beginning to set in, evidence of the end on it’s way. And in the cycle of the seasons, things begin to slow down; except for ants and squirrels.
Here’s today’s nougat
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory. Forever. Amen. Matthew 6.13b
Amen. Such a final word. And yet so filled with possibilities.
I remember thinking as a child that amen meant “the end”, only to discover that I was so wrong. We had an “Amen” corner at church and they poured out the amens and hallelujahs so liberally, I used to think it was an anti- sleeping devise.
More Hebrew than Greek in its origin, Amen is understood to mean, “precisely” or “I agree”, “faithful” or, more recently, “so let it be”.
I wonder, when we say amen at the conclusion of The Prayer, are we really agreeing to God’s will being done here and our conformity to God’s will? Are we confirming that the eternal kingdom of God is our reality, no matter what? Are we agreeing that we first forgive before we seek to tap into God’s gift of forgiveness? Are we agreeing that our prayers will be patterned in content like The Prayer, or are we saying, “Finally. The end”?
We have only tapped the surface of The Prayer and its implications for our lives. Let us strive to bring God’s will to the forefront by opting to live an Amen lifestyle. In accordance with God’s purpose.
Amen? Amen.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
