What do we do when grief bows is low? Here’s today’s Holy Nougat
“And said, Naked (without possessions) came I [into this world] from my mother’s womb, and naked (without possessions) shall I depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed (praised and magnified in worship) be the name of the Lord!” Job 1:21 AMPC
I had a different text yesterday. In fact I had a plan for the day and was ready to execute it. While doing my own devotion with YouVersion, yesterday’s nougat was one of the pieces I imbibed on. As I reflected on the prayer that poured from my soul, I felt led to frame the reflection around it. Little did I know that less than 2 hours later, I’d need every single solitary word from the prayer.
Siblings, when our world shatters from life’s knocks, there is God. Yes, I cried for my mother. We all wept together, my sisters and I. And it was the longest day of my life. The. Absolutely. Longest. Day. Of. My. Life! But, here am I, and it’s a new day.
I couldn’t sleep – and the prayer and the nougat came rushing back. And I reminded God that I was promised rest. It was not a long rest, but I rested for a bit. And that’s what God offers us each and every step of life’s journey.
So we cry. We grieve. We are bereft and torn asunder at times.
But God
And that’s why we turn to God. Our Rock. Our Refuge. Our Redeemer. Our Restorer. Our Resting Place. Our Repairer of the breach. Our God.
And so I thank God for 82 years. I thank God for the lives touched by my mother. I thank God for keeping me and my family going. I thank God for the mountains we each face and overcome. Amid the grief, God remains faithful and sure. To God be the glory.
