What do you do when God’s grace is extended beyond measure in a season of lack? Same as we do in times of plenty – Praise God! Will you join us with praise as we reflect on today’s Holy Nougat?
“My mouth shall speak the praise of Jehovah; And let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.” Psalms 145:21 ASV
It’s not a one time deal. We each of us can invest in corporate praise in addition to the personal thanksgiving for all God has done for us. One songwriter speaks of ‘ten thousand reasons’ to bless the Lord. The psalmist suggests that we itemize the different ways in which God has come through (Ps 103).
I have offered the alphabet challenge, where we identify at least one reason to praise for each letter of the alphabet. What each of these invites us to do is to recognize God’s involvement in our life circumstances; especially in those rough patches. A reformed pessimist once noted that had the author of ‘Footprints’ been truly attentive; s/he should have noted that the single set of prints belonged to Jesus. The pessimist further observed that the protagonist was so overcome by the agony of the situations (to the extent of reliving them without remembering they were PAST) that God’s transformation was forgotten.
When we choose with our wills to bless Jehovah; our perspectives shift and we just might see how all things work together for good. And, others may be drawn by the Word Who gives us the testimony. Isn’t that awesome?!
Lord help us bless You so genuinely and wholeheartedly that all flesh will join the praise song!
