Let’s be honest here; haven’t you experienced some preaching which made you question the source of their spirituality?
Well, I have. Several times. Especially back in the days when one paid long after embarking on the bus. I will also confess that they not only irritated me, but I often got preoccupied with annoyance at their audacity. That being said, consider today’s Holy Nougat
“But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice.” Philippians 1:18 NLT
But here, as in the Gospels, we are clearly told to let them be.
And that’s hard for many of us who experience those ‘charlatans’ and Whose miniseries are affected by them. It hardly seems fair does it?
Yet the Word insists that we allow the wheat and tares to coexist (possibly because we don’t have the skills for accuracy in discerning the charlattans from the genuine). As long as the main message remains Christ-centred. Isn’t it that something!
For we too have our days. Days when our actions may mislead others also. Hmmn hmm. And that’s the crux of the matter. Not only does God delay final judgement in insisting that we leave things be; but God also opens us to the possibility that the Gospel message will be impactful despite.
Because we all have this Treasure stored in our earthen vessels. God’s Word, living WITHIN our lives. Ready and raring to be shared intentionally AND accidentally. By dedicated, souled-out, ‘genuine’ workers. As well as the misguided ones. And especially by those who are able to identify and criticize the fakes, but are not willing to “Go preach.”
Our next recourse? Praise and Prayer. Praise that God’s will will prevail. Prayer for ALL who take up the mantle to bear the Good News.
And that is our primary task when confronted by those whom we consider to be bearing false Good News.
