Greetings
Today’s Holy Nougat is part of a longer conversation which remains the subject of great debate. I trust the reflection might add clarity to some of our concerns.
“The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing.” 1 Corinthians 12:9 NLT
And yet, not even one person receives the gift of nothing! And we’re not talking about bench-warming – that’s not a true gift. But each of us has been gifted by God’s Spirit to nurture and build up the body of Christ.
Now I know many of us might be skeptical about spiritual gifts from God. And rightly so. However, we are not always uncomfortable with magic, divination (aka tarot, palm reading and fortune telling) or other manifestations which have become normal in many societies. Those are spiritual too [some of us have serious concerns about the nature of the spirit behind such, but the fact is they originated from supernatural sources]. Should there be gifts manifested around us which are not directly gifted by God’s Spirit, could it be that the enemy is once again attempting to create confusion, doubt and even schisms in the body of Christ. Unfortunately, we allow that victory far too often by denying God’s Spirit the chance to be manifested in our lives. Nothing is wrong with caution; but everything is right about faith in God’s Spirit.
That’s where discernment comes in. We ask God to confirm that what we experience within or externally is of God’s Spirit. Part of discernment God’s spiritual gift is exactly about that: making the distinction between God’s Spirit and others. Additionally, a close loving relationship with Jesus is helpful. For with Christ comes God’s Spirit, Who keeps us attuned to God’s move.
Having dispensed with some of our concerns, I recommend that we (each of us) prayerfully read the chapter, asking God to reveal to us the Gift which is ours, confirm the gift by way of a witness; and GUIDE us in using the gift for God’s glory.
