Here’s today’s Holy Nougat
“So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:8 KJV
This is strictly about priorities and choices. When God is our priority, our desire is to please God – come what may. This doesn’t mean we don’t occasionally balk at the favour/responsibility God sends our way. It doesn’t mean there aren’t moments of Abrahamic negotiations where we hope to influence God’s mighty move. When we are Souled Out to God, we KNOW to Whom we belong and are clear about Whose business we are attending. One songwriter says ‘Hold Thou my hand … I dare not take One step without Thy aid’. As unPostModern as it may be, we place God’s desires above all else. That’s just how it is.
When flesh is our priority however, we not only seek to be consultant to God, but we may find that our emphases are not necessarily God-pleasing. Sometimes it is so subtle. We may even be seen pursuing godly goals; but our motives – like Barjesus – may be impure.
What drives our acts of ‘charity’, community service or even involvement in ministry?
How often are we found literally or figuratively on our knees seeking God’s face on behalf of another or pursuing intentional intimacy with God?
How predictable is our default response and to Whom do we turn during the extreme life moments? Good or bad
When does God get our undivided attention?
Why do we seek to maintain a relationship with God?
Where is the ‘fruit’ of our ministry?
Are we seeking to please God, or are we breaking God’s heart? It’s not too late to please God.
