In complete harmony with each other! Obviously Paul and company were not Jamaicans; for they would know that ‘teeth and tongue must meet’ (occasional squabbling is inevitable).
Without pausing to research roots and derivatives, I recall that harmony does NOT actually involve singing the EXACT notes. Rather, it involves BLENDING the slight variations within the chord to create BEAUTIFUL music. For me, that suggests that what we say may not always be identical; but HARMONY invites us to be aware of and respect each other in the face of …
I know it is hard. But the mandate is actually Christ-ian in origin; that was part of His pastoral prayer in St John 17. That the disciples (especially) and ALL those who are His find unity! Those are not my words but Christ’s! Which makes it OUR mandate, not happenstance.
How to remain in harmony without discordant notes? Only feasible by ‘reading’ the score and being sensitive to receive our cue from the ‘Conductor’. Or else it’s chaos! So, to the Bible and God’s Spirit we turn; relying on them to keep us in tune.
May that which unites us, the death and resurrection of Christ, be the motivation for us to be in harmony this weekend and beyond.
