Hello
I trust today’s Holy Nougat will spur us into action for those who need us.
“The first time I was brought before the judge, no one came with me. Everyone abandoned me. May it not be counted against them.” 2 Timothy 4:16 NLT
Unfortunately, it is a human failing to which many of us succumb. We tend to ignore those in need; especially if it is likely to disrupt our routine or challenges our welfare. A few of us may willingly come to another’s rescue; but on the whole us humans – men and women – may pretend all is well with someone, when everything says differently.
Do we believe in another to be seen with them in their trials? It could also be a subconscious fear that their ‘light’ affliction could be ours. So we see signs of an abusive relationship, or even a stark shift in a person’s behavior, and we ask no questions or prefer to believe that if someone is in trouble they will come to us for help.
Really?!
Jesus preferred to have ‘church’ outside; not with pamphlets and propaganda; but by making Himself accessible to all – young and old, rich and poor, healthy and unwell! His spirituality knew few boundaries.
Of course, it could be that the willingness to accompany another in a season of trials is a spiritual gift which comes with the anointing of God’s Spirit. But I gotta say some of it is basic human kindness.
And so, let’s take this admonition personally. Let’s assume it is an invitation to do and be differently this time around. To respond in the way of one anointed by God’s Spirit … to release captives, offer sight, negotiate freedom (or accompany those charged with criminal activities)
and …
When we’ve done; proclaiming the year of the Lord’s favour will already be understood by those who we wish to reach.
Good morning
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
