We celebrate the gift of God’s Spirit by exploring one aspect of the work of this Spirit in our lives through today’s Holy Nougat
““But I will send you the Advocate —the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me.”
John 15:26 NLT
Isn’t it wonderful – Jesus sent One Who intercedes for us; Who pleads our cause(s) before the Throne of Grace! Now that’s good news! When we think we have cause to fear; the plea for reinforcements has already gone forth. When our situation looks bleak, our petition is already gone forth. For we do not fight alone. We are not alone.
The Spirit of Truth, Who sees the bigger picture, is with us ; reminding us that we’ve got ‘backative’. And this isn’t just any old support system as our backative; oh no – we’ve got Divine coverage. Ready for the representation.
One might argue that we hear about this gifting of the Comforter, but have not seen evidence; except for the insistence some have for speaking in tongues. I beg to differ. For this role of the Comforter (or Advocate or Spirit of Truth) is slightly dependent on our tapping into; no – it just requires our acceptance of the Gift. To recognize that we HAVE a Guide and a Representative before God’s presence and thus accepting the gift.
It’s like being exceptionally hungry and practically dying on the outside of a Five star restaurant; looking in and getting hungrier and hungrier; not realizing that we have an unlimited gift certificate to eat there.
‘But,’ one might argue, ‘if the Comforter is making intercession for me, why do I have to do anything?’
Solid question. Makes sense. But if we are unaware or unbelieving, we are likely to try to solve both earth and spirit realm battles by ourselves. Or that’s what our actions suggest. Jesus Christ had healing deliverance for all – even in His clothing. Yet, only one woman is recognized for accepting healing that way; and only in desperation! Where were the others? Some did, but not all. Didn’t they also know the Truth? Perhaps, but they didn’t tap in.
We have been blessed with the promises and we know that in the physical absence of Jesus, we have our Personal Intercessor! What’s to stop us from calling on the Spirit of Truth to guide us into God’s Truth?
