So I actually had my praise time yesterday; not quite the marathon I had hoped for, but hopefully a few others of you joined at your leisure and pleasure, although I only got three songs. Not to worry, it’s never too late to praise God! That’s what today’s Holy Nougat is all about.
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.” Psalm 150:6 NIV
An awesome and interesting thing happened during the praise; in the midst of praising God, I found myself interceding for a few persons. Has that ever happened to you?
Naturally, I paused to think about the link between praise and intercession and I only concluded that as I bragged to God about God’s blessings to me, there was a desire for me to see God’s blessings poured out on others also. I kinda left it at that, having concluded that praising Jesus carries a very practical element which I sometimes forget.
Look at psalm 150 – not only does it begin and end with praise; but it gives the how and why of praise. One could surmise that praising God is the be all and end all of our lives. And as people of faith; it is! For praise (hawlal), as used here, is about vision and sound! It’s the bright breathtaking display of God’s blessings (in the mighty heave) as well as the sounds of music and dance which laud, commend, sing and celebrate – even to the point of foolishness and boastfulness. And it’s an invitation to all living things – every things that breathes.
That being said, I guess the other issue for us is, what does my (individual) praise dance to God look like on a daily basis? Is it inhabitable? For if God inhabits our praise (ps22:3), then how we praise ought to be with the intention of creating a suitable dwelling place for our God. Not just intercession for others, but all we do.
Could be that our praise-a-thon needs to be a lifestyle and not an occasional activity.
