Recently I was checking out a programme on Gospelthree radio where a debate ensued about the origin of the original sin, and the phrase ; “They loved the creature more than the Creator” kept reverberating throughout the discourse. (Expect more on that idea in another Nougat reflection)
When that happens, we’ll find that it had the potential to become an addiction. And that is a form of enslavement.
Something to prepare the spiritual digestives for today’s Holy Nougat™
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. Jesus answered, “If I want glory for myself, it doesn’t count. But it is my Father who will glorify me. You say, ‘He is our God,’ John 8:34, 54 NLT
Methods, motives, maturity … That’s the combination.
It’s not easy in the natural for us to ‘share our glory’
with another. The human tendency is to be vaunted up and exalted/recognized for even the slightest thing which we do. Spiritual maturity comes when we are able to honestly step back and allow God’s glory through Christ Jesus to be at the core of everything we say, think or do.[Especially when others seek to take credit for our hard work].
So what is it that drives us? What’s our real motive for helping others succeed? Why do we help others in need? Are we like those firms which only provide assistance if there’s a photo opp or mileage to be gained for their goodwill?
And when the stakes are high, what will we stop at to realize the fulfillment of that which we desire? Unfortunately, there are Christians who have built their reputation on unscrupulous behaviour. They do succeed, but the methods which birth the success actually contribute to their enslavement by sin. Not good.
How then ought we to live?
As ones who’ve already discerned that the Glory belongs to God, and God alone. Let’s allow God to elevate us when the time is right.
