Wow
Jesus is about to be publicity arrested and his sole concern is to secure the safety of the disciple.
He KNEW who they were. In fact, one had just betrayed Him. And He KNEW the rest were going to desert him! Nevertheless, Jesus insisted that He should be the only person taken away.
He KNEW that He was about to be falsely accused.
He KNEW that there would be beatings
He KNEW that trial was rigged
He KNEW what was coming next – slow and painful Death.
Yet He CHOSE to be concerned with the welfare of the disciples.
He CHOSE the way of the Cross over freedom
For them
For you
For me
What a God! What a totally awesome God! He called it just right when He said, “There is NO greater love than when someone willingly dies in someone’s place.
He KNEW and He still CHOSE the
disciples
you
me
everybody
That’s the good news.
The other piece (that we often try to ignore) is our response – do we accept that gift of selfless love; or do we ignore it?
And if we accept; are we willing to do likewise?
