Connect with us

Hi

We have all heard of divine visitations, when God connected with someone here on earth. But we often fail to note that God desires a one-on-one connection with each of us. Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“The LORD answered me: “Write down the vision; write it clearly on clay tablets so whoever reads it can run to tell others.”

Habakkuk 2:2 NCV

So Habakkuk’s relationship with God was not one-sided. It could easily have been. He had a litany of complaints posed as questions, because life was rough and God seemed to be unaware.

It could have been that he gave up on speaking to God; choosing to cut off relations with God because of God’s silence. Had he done that, he would certainly have missed this unique experience. He chose instead to have it out with God. Laid his issues before God, honestly and with hope for an answer.

He got one

And that’s the other piece in this non-one-sided relationship.

He listened

Yup Habakkuk was able to hear God. For himself. Without filters or a messenger. It was a direct response that was clearly intended for Habakkuk as per his questions.

And the first thing God told him to do was

‘Write.’

Take notes, as if in dictation. Keep the language simple enough to be understood and brief (and catchy) enough to be shared.

I think he was also encouraged to write so that he Habakkuk would not forget.

From this we gather that although the Lord May choose silence, God desires to be in a two-way relationship with us.

No (human) intermediaries required.

This means that we ought to be REAL with God. For if we can’t be honest with God, we’ve got real issues.

It also means that when we approach God, we ought to be in conversation mode not monologue-only modality. When we are intentionally in God’s presence, God’s got lots to say to us – if we’d only listen. I confess it’s not easy, but this is God’s desire.

Sometimes we have to pause from our litany of self and just listen

Listen to God

It’ll be hard for God to put words in our mouths when we are neither listening nor paying attention, even though we’re in God’s presence.

Speak Lord, we are listening.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
