For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:45 NLT
Jesus Christ, servant of humanity. No complaints about the task, no shirking of responsibility, but totally focused on enhancing his ‘father’s business’.
He absorbed pain, anger, dissatisfaction and ego trips. Not only does he clean up after us, but he also heals the sick, the stinky and the suicidal. Touching the unclean – that’s servanthood alright. Washing cracked, filthy (possibly literally filth-encrusted) feet. Oh yeah! Not even servants looked forward to that.
But he understood his purpose. And he’s been fulfilling it ever since. Even to death on the cross.
What a servant! What a Jesus! What a servant-saviour!
Do we know him personally? Will we accept the Lord as our servant-saviour? Will we emulate him?
