Can you tell the difference between dedication and arrogance?
Here’s today’s nougat
And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you? Nehemiah 6:3
Nehemiah understood his purpose. Nothing was permitted to get in the way. He would not be distracted. And his response to Sanballat and his cohort explains it all.
He recognized that when God appoints a person to a task, the work is no longer mediocre, it is GREAT. And because he was appointed to the rebuilding by God, he was giving it his best … Time, Energy, Creativity.
Not only does his approach challenge, it reminds us that NOTHING is ordinary when under God’s direction; not the finished product, not the task, not the worker.
So it isn’t arrogance to recognize work being done to God’s glory as a great work. Perhaps the distinction lies in the heart. May this be the song of our heart when tasked by God
