Blessings my dear

Have you had a season where every ounce of sleep which you’ve ever missed seems to be catching up with you all at once? If so, then welcome to reality. I believe that our spirits operate in a similar way; we spend so much time away from God’s presence and then our spirits go seeking God feverishly.

Here’s what the psalmist says in today’s holy nougat

O God, you are my God. Early will I seek you, my spirit pants for you; my flesh pants for you in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. Psalm 63.1

When we consider that David was on the run from the law in the wilderness, the imagery makes a lot of sense. And, if you’re in certain parts of Jamaica during the recent drought, yes – this image is exceptionally vivid.

Have you ever had such an earnest yearning for God? Where your flesh and spirit seem to scream out that they will fail without God taking over? For David, it seemed to occur when he was between a rock and a hard place regarding the kingship and Saul’s sense of betrayal. It once occurred for me when I struggled to get into undergrad and it felt as though my world was crashing down. My body refused food and my spirit went into prayer mode without me having to instruct my body to undergo a much needed fast.

I have fasted since as part of a spiritual discipline; but that sense of lostness and deprivation did not necessarily motivate my actions. And so my responses were different. When I sought God early, I had not sought other alternatives. I knew God was the only way I could make it. My body made a beeline for the chapel, and my pride disappeared as I lay prostate on the floor. I had a new appreciation for Romans 8, for my spirit was what bawled out to my God. And like Jacob, I did not move until I felt the blessed peace which said, “It is well with my soul!”

At that point, it did not matter whether the registrar accepted me; I KNEW MY God had heard me and met me in my wilderness.

Because of this; I guarantee you that God WILL meet you in yours. No question about it.

God’s presence in our lives is daily bread. Hunger for God, even in our wilderness moments is legitimate. God will come through. Do we have witnesses?

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
