Hello
I awakened to the sound of rain and thought off the drought-laden areas. Lord in your mercy heal the patched land.
Here’s today’s nougat
Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2
I was watching “Let’s Make a Deal”. One contestant was on a roll, wheeling and dealing like a true negotiator, sniffing out the prizes which were worthwhile and opting to keep our switch just In time. Then the last deal came, and it was so painful to see the contestant select the Zonk curtain. All the previous choices went up in nothingness! I was so disappointed. My heart reached out to the contestant. And then dawned on me that I didn’t even know the person.
Yet, many times I found myself immune to the real life issues faced by persons I know.
When the Pauline writer invites us to bear one another’s burdens, I believe the reference was intended for more than distant sympathy directed to a game show contestant. Rather, we are called to be actively engaged in securing and promoting the best interests of those in need. Not always easy.
It means looking beyond self and connecting with the filthy 38-years of infirmity man in need of troubled water; being touched by a woman who it’s dead to society with her hemophilia; being associated with tax collectors and prostitutes at the risk of our impeccable reputations. It means being Christ to those who have little chance of meeting him – including our loved ones.
Bear one another’s burdens huh…
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
