Blessed day to one and all
How has it been, any rest on the weekend?
Here is today’s nougat June 7
Give us each day or daily bread. Luke 11:3
Ever stopped to wonder what do we really need to make it through a day? I strongly suspect that our answer WILL vary in relation to what we are experiencing when the question is posed. For many, we might take the concept literally and cite Maslow’s Their it some other sociological ten which, though accurate (food, clothes, shelter, … self-fulfillment), might not adequately reflect the daily bread of one who’s undergoing trauma and needs a special touch.
When Jesus prayed, I believe the disciples hard echoes of the Wilderness Experience which helped define their Jewishness. And, if so, then they remembered that daily bread was just that … enough food (manna) to keep them going for the day’s journey. They might have remembered the worms which appeared when they tried storing extra. They might have remembered the Holy shewbread our just regular bread they’d have for common usage. But they probably got it that Jesus was insisting that they/we were not to worry about God’s ability you meet their/our needs; whether for food, clothing, shelter or even emotional needs. (see Mt 6:33-34)
This prayer assures us that come what today may, God has EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED to face today, are we willing to take the leap of faith, believing that this is so and receiving that gift as needed? Dear Lord, give us today ONLY our daily requirement. In Jesus’s name, amen
