Hi there

Sometimes we cry out to God and it seems that God is not listening. I know that is hard to swallow; but maybe it is an invitation for us to perform a self-check. Please receive today’s Holy Nougat™️

““Why do you call Me ‘Master, Master’ and do not do what I say?” Luke‬ ‭6:46‬ ‭TLV‬‬

For some post colonial theologians, using Master to describe God is challenging, as it is conveys an ‘oppressive’ system. But when we use the term ‘Lord’ in our prayer conversations we are acknowledging that God is in control. And, that’s an inescapable fact.

Just think; as Creator, there was nothing before God. Absolutely nothing. Then, at the sound of God’s voice, Breath – (God’s Ruach, ie Spirit) – joined forces with Word (God’s Logos, ie Jesus )to establish the created and creative order. Nothingness was obliged to obey God’s utterance to become Something. Genesis 1 confirms, God spoke … and it was.

Likewise, God took the seemingly inconsequential (dust) and formed it into the material and consequential (humans) by breathing Life into the framed dust. If we hold that as Truth; then we must then understand ourselves as being part of God’s Creation. And if God is Creator; we are thus subject to the One Whose very breath gives us life.

But we often do differently

Like Adam, we see the Fruit (of the Tree of knowledge of Good and Evil), and become convinced of our own independent power. Independent we think, of God and others. We impose our own will on all God’s Creation, often denying them the right to life in fullness. And we find ourselves right where we are these days; at an almost literal standstill, because we have opted for our will instead of God’s. And that, my dears, is a recipe for disaster.

Natural disasters often exacerbated by human greed. Deforestation means hurricanes come inland much more quickly. Poor disposal of waste stifles the seas. Mismanagement of resources impoverishes nations, devalues those working to source the resources and often spurs diseases or other disasters. We prey on others instead of praying to God; and our girls go missing, are raped, trafficked or killed. And as easily as that, another person was found, decomposing in a ditch, with many of us wondering how and why?

I agree, God’s silence isn’t always about human failings. But our failure to honestly Yield to God’s design is sometimes a serious factor. Could this be a time for us to once again discover what it means to be the Created, subject to God’s will and not our own? Ready for God to truly be Master over our lives.

Is it time for a life reset?

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
