Nougat 16

Sometimes it’s hard to truly reflect on scripture that we already know. And then we find a word or two shifted in a version transliteration and we stop to take stock.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Today’s Holy Nougat is one of those

We know this, but do we live it? If trust has to be earned, what more does God have to do to earn ours? I ask, because many a time the justification we provide for mistrusting others usually affords the person one chance to ‘mess up’, and then they’re in our bad books. And usually it’s justified, especially when we are in vulnerable situations; that is so not the time to discern whether the person will come through.

With Jesus it is different. We know we can rely on Him, we know He’s with us for the long term – especially when the going gets tough. Yet, in spite of the knowledge, we seek second, third and even twentieth opinions. Siblings – Jesus IS our final opinion! There really ought not be any overriding thoughts. Especially when we are not seeing logic in God’s actions. I hasten to remind us that God’s thoughts and ways aren’t like ours (see Isaiah 55:8-9)

Of course, in order to trust God we must seek God’s face. On a regular basis. For everything. By establishing a healthy prayer life. Where we talk with God and not at God. Where God’s opinion matters and becomes the determining factor in the little things. And where we celebrate our breakthroughs with God and others regularly. And that becomes so automatic that when the challenges come – and they will – God is our first priority for discussion for the way forward.

When that happens we will have proof that we’re not looking for twentieth opinions any longer. For we’re not just acknowledging God, but seeking God’s face before acting.
