Have you ever had legitimate employment and the benefit package included payment for simply being alive? As we read today’s Holy Nougat
, imagine that God was our employer.
“Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all his benefits:” Psalm 103:2 KJV
I’ve known folks who shop around for perks (benefits) to determine where they will work. In some cases, the pay is moderate but the non-taxable income makes all the difference. Accommodation, travel, and health are among the top priorities. Some look at the vacation package, and still others look at the retirement package. A potential employer has to consider such, as competitors may match or top the offer.
To some extent, God is our employer, and so , we remember some benefits
Pre-sign on perks include air we breathe, sunshine, rain, and a support system. On their own, each perk may be overlooked, but after Covid-19, we are all more aware of the value of fresh air. Further, Maslow’s hierarchy places physiological needs at the base of the pyramid, God’s got those covered.
While some argue that safety needs are not covered in God’s plans, I invite us to revisit God’s provision in Creation and examine the promises of Psalm 91, 23, 24, t46, etc. Under the Shadow of God’s wings, we are safe. Love is a given, as God’s Love is a natural perk of being human. It hovers around us, awaiting acceptance and reciprocation by us all, we only have to look.
With our sense of belonging resulting from awareness of God’s Love, our sense of self will increase our confidence. And so, equipped with those perks, our lives are poised for self-fulfillment.
Yet, we often take our core employer for granted. When we take the time to bless God for the many blessings, it is easier to recognize how much God has placed in us. And even when life gets overwhelming we find that the awareness of God’s grace and blessings continue to buoy us up.
May our souls be uplifted as we count our blessings.
