It’s time for a praise break. Today’s Holy Nougat
reminds us how.
“Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.” Psalms 103:2 NLT
One songwriter puts it succinctly, ’All that I am and ever hope to be, I owe it all to Thee’
If we choose to see God’s hand in the details of our lives, we will find much to thank God for. The rains that takes the edge off the blistering tropical sun. Pain that assures us we’re still alive and advises that something needs sorting out.
But this nougat isn’t only inviting us to bless God for the many things God has done. It also invites us to bless God with our entire being. And entire still means all, with no exceptions. None whatsoever. So if our hands are clapping, our mouths ought not be saying ought but praise. And perhaps more importantly, while we belt out our praise songs by rote, our minds ought to be doing so too.
Those are the easy ones. For it’s not easy to conceive of praising God with more abstract body parts. What comes to mind is the fact of our bodies being God’s temple. Every action, every vessel within a temple is holy – set aside from common or (spiritually) offensive use. Are our eyes feasting on things of God, or watching pornography. How does the food we ingest praise God – are we overeating, eating unhealthy foods, or managing what goes into our bodies? Does our clothing invite (and reflect) godly praise?
Another songwriter commands the body parts to praise the Lord, and ends with the whole self being involved (kinda like the Hokey Pokey, but for God’s glory). So we identify within our own selves where we need to add points of praise and begin to worship God. It’s that straightforward and simple.
I honestly believe that it’s time for a whole self praise revolution. What are we waiting for?
