It’s time to get back to basics. Here’s today’s Holy Nougat

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Rev Dr Lewin Williams, Caribbean theologian, is attributed with squashing many a debate by referring to the nougat mentioned above. He posited that the willingness and ability to ground Faith conversations with the first four words in the Bible is the guaranteed proof of openness to God’s Spirit. I suspect that it is the acceptance of one fundamental truth: God supersedes all else – good or bad, great or small.

How do we resonate with that theory?

Would we agree that God not only super-sedes ALL else in our lives; but that God was at the beginning of the world? You see, we ought to see God as being right there at our beginnings. At the start of our existence. And, if God was right there AT Our individual beginnings, then God’s pronouncement, ’Let there be …’ is also the be all of our existence.

Can we hear God speaking life into a random unfertilized cell; calling us into being? For if we can, then we might also be able to trust that God with our lives – the good, bad, great and small. Further, our trust might even extend to consider that God, our Creator, still speak into our lives.

Perhaps like me, you have a few ‘Let there be’ issues that honestly need to be. And perhaps, like me, you suffered from temporary amnesia and forgot that it is God’s ‘Let there be’ that matters. If so, I propose that we revert to God, our Be ALL and permit God’s Word to direct the course of our lives. Might we give God credit to know what God’s doing? In our lives and even for others? For God’s ‘Let there be’ began a Good Work called us – you and me – and God desires to complete us in the fullness of all we’ve been created for. Even the vilest among us can be transformed; just ask Paul, formerly Saul.

Is it time for us to let God’s ‘Let there be’ become our reality?
