Nougat 20

I tell you ma peeps – today is a good day to give God thanks and praise. Simply because God is God. I woke up remembering that this time last year (day not date), my right knee was at its worst ever, and I had to get help to take me to the doctor’s office, and three weeks later, I was an orphan. Yet here I am, still standing, by God’s grace, and my knees are doing much better, with no therapy, as I was in Jamaica by the time the swelling was down enough for the therapy to begin. And though I know you’ve heard it twice before, I’m definitely singing Today’s Holy Nougat in my heart.

“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.”

Revelation 4:11 NLT

By God’s Will (pt 2)

So having digressed yesterday to look at ‘will’ in the sense of inheritance, let us reflect on the literal ‘will’ used in the context of the Nougat. The word will (θέλημα, ατος, τό i.e. theléma) could also be considered pleasure, desire, preference. In other words, that which has been created (by and only, of God (κτίζω ktizó)), was not done so by accident. It is on purpose. You and I who are part of God’s blessed creation were intentional. It was God’s desire for us to be here. Yes indeedy, God takes pleasure in having us!

Does God not deserve praises for that?

Now I’m the first to tell you that when some things and people are removed from this visible part of creation, I am wont to feel the pain intensely and deeply. I am honest enough to admit that I’m still reeling from my grandmother’s 30+ years ago. So you can imagine all the others have added to that pain and shock to my system.

But here’s another thought – what if those people (things) never came in our lives at all? Would that have been a better option for us? Certainly not. Not in my opinion anyway. So I definitely have cause to pause and give thanks to the Source, the Creator, my Abba – El Elyon, YHWH. I have no problem in declaring

“you are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power …”

and I will say it again, again and again.
