Y’shua Wasn’t Just Dead, He’d Been Executed!

I can’t begin to imagine the level of devastation those disciples would have experienced at Y’shua Jesus death. This was the first person to truly see them. The first person to believe in them and invest in their potential. It must have felt hopeless. Y’shua wasn’t just dead. He’d been executed! How would you have felt? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat.

John 20:19 CEB

[19] It was still the first day of the week. That evening, while the disciples were behind closed doors because they were afraid of the Jewish authorities, Jesus came and stood among them. He said, “Peace be with you.”

Behind Closed Doors

Sometimes, I wonder whether I’d have been a ‘good’ disciple. When I try to imagine my response to some situations, I don’t know that I’d have done differently from the disciples. In fact, my response would probably have been even worse. When Y’shua died, in spite of all His supernatural abilities, I suspect something in me would have died, too.

Then, less than a week after His death, to get the news that His body was stolen! That couldn’t have been good for their peace of mind. I would have been in a tailspin. Perhaps I would have been out searching for clues to where Y’shua could have been taken. Or, I may have stayed with the others, commiserating and crying, as we plunged deeper into depression and fear. Where would you have been that first day of the week?

Self-Check

In current challenging moments, how do we respond?

Application

There, in that state of depression and fear, behind closed doors, Y’shua presented His risen self to the disciples. As their mentor, He acknowledged that they needed to see Him. As God, Y’shua knew they needed hope. Appearing as He did, behind those closed doors, Y’shua singlehandedly destroyed the fear and dispelled the depression He knew His folk faced.

Today, or whenever we face our first day, Y’shua is reminding us … the veil of separation has been torn asunder, and the walls of depression and fear are forever destroyed. He has come to us behind closed doors, meeting us at the point of our need.

No longer do we need to hide our fear. No longer do we suffer the indignity of being alone and unseen. Y’shua Jesus is with us behind the closed doors. Hallelujah, it is well.

Point to Ponder

Can we see Him? How will we respond?

May all we seek be found in Christ
