To whom much is given, much is expected. Obviously, much was expected of Joshua, for he was given much to do. Yet Joshua wasn’t alone. See what you think as you consider Today’s Holy Nougat
Deuteronomy 31:7 NLT
[7] Then Moses called for Joshua, and as all Israel watched, he said to him, “Be strong and courageous! For you will lead these people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors he would give them. You are the one who will divide it among them as their grants of land.
You will Lead, for You are the One
We agreed that Joshua understudied Moses. We don’t know that they decided that together, but Joshua was clearly God’s choice. Hear Moses’ words ‘…you will lead these people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors he would give them. You are the one who will divide it…’ Those didn’t come only from Moses. God is not accidental in our lives.
Self-Check
Are there times in our lives when we wonder whether Y’shua knows who or where we are? When we feel as though we’re the wrong leader who’s been selected for task? How do we respond?
Application
Caleb and Joshua had distinguished themselves by the uncommon faith demonstrated when they went to survey the new land (see Numbers 14). Given that they were the only two who could see God’s presence and provision amongst the twelve who went, it is understandable that such a task was given to Joshua. Nevertheless, it may have been daunting.
Joshua never once disrespected the authority of Moses. Rather, he was quick to defend it, as he knew Whom Moses represented. If the people were churlish about the survey report, he could anticipate their challenge about the apportioning. His faith and authority were about to be tested.
And so it is with us. Despite our qualifications for a task or our practical experience in the field, there will be those who pose a challenge to our leadership. When God appoints us, however, we need not fear. The writer of Hebrews 13:20-21 proposed that, ‘…the God of peace—who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus —
[21] may … equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him…’ God’s plan is to prosper us, to help us succeed in all we do.
Thus, when consecrated for service, when presented to lead, or when a new team/task is assigned to us, we need not fear. We will lead with conviction and integrity, for we are the ones God called at this time.
Assignment
Our next step is to spend time in prayer discerning how God desires us to lead.
