There is No ‘Boo’?

Published on

Have you ever played peekaboo? It’s usually a game played with children that is like hide and seek, but no one leaves the room. Sometimes, the instigator actually says, ‘Peekaboo’ or ‘Peekaboo. I see you.’ It is fun, but it’s also a game of trust, as the child is taught that not seeing something doesn’t mean it is permanently gone.

But what if once when we peek, there is no ‘boo’? How does that affect us? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat.

John 16:19-20; 19:30 AMP

[16:19] Jesus knew that they wanted to ask Him, so He said to them, “Are you wondering among yourselves about what I meant when I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me’?

[20] I assure you and most solemnly say to you that you will weep and grieve [in great mourning], but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.

[19:30] When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and [voluntarily] gave up His spirit. Care of the Body of Jesus

Peekaboo

Y’shua Jesus’ cryptic comment, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me’, could be seen as a type of Peekaboo. Now you see me, now you don’t wasn’t exactly traditional ‘adult’ conversation. Yet there was Jesus, speaking earnestly to His disciples while in the peak of his life, and He was prophesying about His imminent death. That couldn’t have made any sense to the disciples.

Then Y’shua died.

Jesus not only died, but He faced a gruesome betrayal and desertion by different ones of His disciples. And they were all left alone. Except one.

How have you dealt with spiritual Peekaboo?

Application

Siblings,

When Y’shua died, the disciples were caught in a hard moment. What were they experiencing? Did they suffer from some kind of remorse? Did they ask themselves, ‘What if’? Their leader was dead, and they didn’t try to rescue Him. Could they have seen Judas’ betrayal and stopped him? Was there something else that they needed to have done?

Let’s allow this to sit for a minute.

The fact is, they had been warned. Perhaps they remembered Y’shua’s words at that time and wondered who was next in line to die. Because death separates like nothing else. They might not have understood resurrection at that time – and so might have thought, ‘in a little while’ referred to their own death.

Because we have the full story, we can look to the resurrection. So, let us not live as people who have no hope. Let us hold to the fact that when there’s no ‘boo’ when we peek, that Y’shua Jesus has assured us that, ‘again a little while’ is coming. We will see, feel, hear, experience Jesus in a bit.

Point to Ponder

Live through this liminal moment, assured that Yeshua sees us even in those moments.

May all we seek be found in Christ
