The Concept of Christ as Living Word

Published on

As stated before, though not in so many words, we don’t often connect light with life-giving power or vice versa. In our reflections yesterday, we began thinking about these two concepts in relation to Y’shua Jesus. Then, our primary focus was on Y’shua as Words of Life; Life-giver. As we processed that information, it was noted that the Greek for light spoke to illumination, reflection, and manifestation. The reflection was not exhausted, hence our revisiting the concept of Christ as Living Word: Light for All. Consider Today’s Holy Nougat.

John 1:1, 3-4 CEB

[1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

[3] Everything came into being through the Word, and without the Word, nothing came into being. What came into being

[4] through the Word was life, and the life was the light for all people.

Living Word: Light for All

Have you ever literally been in a dark place, surrounded by limited or no light? It’s a bit disconcerting, isn’t it. To some extent, that’s the state of our lives without Christ. We may operate in a God-less state, but we do so almost to our peril.

Furthermore, we’re also reminded of the psalmist’s exhortation that God’s Word is lamp and light … offering sure direction on life’s pathway.

As one who’s benefited from a lit path in the dark, I can tell you, it is assuring to know that the way is clear. Sounds in the dark don’t seem as threatening.

God’s Word, Y’shua offers a similar kind of service. But it’s even better. He already knows the entire way we’re going, and the radiance of His light is indeed life-giving, removing fear and doubt.

Self-Check

In what situations have we needed a lit pathway and find comfort and direction through Christ’s light?

Application

Sometimes, that illumination comes at the end of a prayer like a clear sense of what next. At other times, it may be a message from someone, an open vision, or the calm assurance that derives from reading the Bible. The joy is, we have the guarantee, from the entire Trinity – God’s Spirit, YHWH, and Y’shua – that the Logos will offer direction and illumination.

Of course, the illumination may sometimes seem faint, like a shard of light in a poorly lit room. One writer said it’s just enough light for the step I’m on. In such cases, we need to ensure that we have not strayed away from the Word. If we have strayed, Move Quickly Toward The Light. If not, do likewise; but trust Y’shua and the process. Take one step forward with prayer, then the next step, then the next, until the entire path is wholly clear once again. That’s when we walk by faith rather than sight.

And here is the clincher. As God’s image-bearers and co-creators; as lanterns in which the Light of the World resides, others must be able to see the Light in our words and deeds. That’s some serious responsibility, folks. Both in relation to bearing the Light (we can’t have Y’shua living in an unclean vessel continuously) and in ensuring that others have access to Y’shua.

We are like the moon reflecting the light of the sun. We don’t carry with us the entire glory of God, but by God’s grace and God’s Spirit, we may motivate others to come see for themselves. We become lesser manifestations of the Light. Little lanterns, if you will, filled with the oil (God’s Spirit) that keeps us shining fourth Christ’s light.

Can you imagine that, us being the ones through whom the world meets the Christ? Wherever, whenever, however needed? It feels exciting and scary at the same time. That is amazing and absolutely awesome!

Siblings, we have this assurance that wherever Y’shua is, there is light. That is everywhere. Moreover, we are light because He is Light. What shall we do with this reality?

Point to Ponder

Is there someone whom we know of, who needs God’s Word of direction and illumination today? How might we be light bearers to point the person to Y’shua?

May all we seek be found in Christ
