I want a revival in my soul
I want a revival in my soul
I must apply to the blood of Jesus
To get a revival in my soul
Hi siblings
That’s an old-school classic. Yet, the lyrics are consistently current. In all seasons of our lives, there is a need for revival. That’s what marks us Christ’s and counts for righteousness. Not quite sure about my argument? That’s fine. Consider Today’s Holy Nougat, which may add some clarity.
Philippians 3:10 CEB
[10] The righteousness that I have comes from knowing Christ, the power of his resurrection, and the participation in his sufferings. It includes being conformed to his death
Resurrection Power
Siblings,
Our Nougat indicates that knowing Christ, the power of His resurrection and sharing in His suffering; is what counts for righteousness. We realise that this isn’t about what some of us would term self-righteous. Rather, it relates to being right with God. It reminds me of a point raised by my New Testament professor during my second semester1 of seminary. Being defined as ‘Christian’ is directly related to our belief in the resurrection. He insisted that it is non-negotiable. I concur because in His resurrection, we see what, to me, is the absolutely most distinguishing difference between Christ and other gods. He rose from the grave.
Self-Check
What do you consider as the most distinguishing feature of Christianity?
Application
I maintain the belief that Christ is the only person Who raised Himself from the grave. Resurrections were not strange to the biblical context of Christ’s time, though relatively few in number. Elijah and Elisha had both been credited with the gift, and so was Y’shua. The difference is they haven’t raised themselves to life.
Strong’s Concordance reveals “the concept of resurrection is related to the Hebrew word תְּחִיָּה (tehiyyah), meaning “revival” or “resurrection,” though the direct Greek equivalent is not found in the Old Testament.’ In English, to revive is the act of returning life to something, so it adds up in a literal sense. It follows that when I say I’m made right with God because I believe in the resurrected Christ, I’m starting that He effected His own revival. Resurrection Power is revival.
By extension, if our faith in Christ offers us eternal life, then we are also ‘revived’ beyond physical death upon acceptance of Christ as our Saviour. That is also resurrection power. Christ’s capacity to rescue us from eternal death even without physical contact. All because of the power of Christ at work within us.
Point to Ponder
How does it feel to know that our revival is guaranteed because of Christ’s revival?
