Did you realize there’s a blessing connected to believing in Jesus? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat™️

“So all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3‬:‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Heirs to Abraham’s Blessings

Just by believing in Jesus we tap into Abraham’s blessings. It’s almost unbelievable. But when we consider why Abraham received the blessing, it makes sense. To confirm our premise, let’s check on that first blessing and also look at the circumstances that preceded it.

Abraham (aka Abram), is first mentioned in Genesis 11, in the genealogy story of his Great great … great granddad Shem. Shem was one of Noah’s sons who survived the flood. Abram, son of Terah, son of Nahor, was the 9th generation after the Flood and lived with his father’s family and his wife Sarai, in Chaldea. While en route Canaan, accompanied by Abram, Sarai, and his grandson Lot, Terah opted to settle in Harran.

After some time, Abram received a directive from God to resume the journey his father has begun, although it wasn’t shared in that way. Rather, God invited him to move away in an act of faith; away from the familiar, the comfortable, and the secure; to an unknown country for which he would have to rely on God for directions. In return, God promised to

bless Abram beyond his wildest expectations – he would become famous, those who blessed him would be blessed, he himself would be a blessing, and the world would be blessed (because of his obedience) through him.

How would you respond to that offer?

There is a sense in which that offer comes to us today. For we’re told that choosing to believe in Jesus is similar to Abram’s choice. Our faith takes us on a journey to a land we’ve never seen, but about which we dream. Daily or somewhat frequently we pray, ’… have Your way on earth as You do in Heaven.’ We are looking toward a land we’ve never seen anticipating blessings, becoming blessings, and blessing the world by our faith in Jesus.

Yes siblings, that’s the promise. When we set out, without exact coordinates on this Faith journey, we are preparing to receive Abram’s blessing. I pause to note that my mention of Terah was not accidental. It seems that Terah had received a similar offer from God. We infer that from Genesis 11:31, which clearly states that initially, ’Terah… set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there.

Siblings, let us not opt to settle for comfort, or in grief, or with distractions, on our own journey with Christ. Rather let us remain steadfast, holding firmly to the promises and blessings that are ours once we accept Christ. I pray for ongoing strength for the journey, as we find our way, by Faith, through Christ Jesus.

May all we seek be found in Christ
