Nougat 9

Today’s Holy Nougat bears a question for each of us to answer before reading the reflection.

“For who is God except the Lord? And who is a rock besides our God?—” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭18:31‬ ‭NRSV‬‬

Let’s get this straight. Though we carry God’s DNA, we are NOT God. Whatever miracles are manifested through us, whichever prophetic words, whoever is impressed by our preaching and teaching, we are NOT God! Nor is anyone else around us, neither in cyberspace nor in our live circles.

Having this (hopefully) riveted on our hearts, souls and minds, we are in the position to worship in spirit and truth. For God is Spirit (John 3). That means we don’t reserve worship for specific days or times. For God is due our praise ALL the time; not weekly. And we know that God lives in our praises (Psalm 22:3). [This invites us to think carefully about what we say and do in ‘praising’ others]

Nor do we restrict ourselves to worship only in a physical sanctuary. Not when Creation bears witness to God’s sovereignty. Nor when the greatest sanctuary for our worshiping God lies within. We ought to have learned that a physical building offers space for fellowship; but there are other ways to assemble ourselves together. That might be the key takeaway over the past two years.

It also means we worship no other gods, human or otherwise. Nor do we offer ourselves as gods to anyone else. It may be very tempting; especially if we are benefiting materially. We have to overcome the temptation of materialism or egos so that God can be God of all our lives.

Having ascertained and confirmed God’s sovereignty over our lives, we approach the throne of grace (in our hearts), giving to God God’s due.
