We continue our reflection on Wisdom in today’s Holy Nougat

“But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.” ‭‭James‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Godly Wisdom is Gentle at ALL times!

In a sense, the word Gentle is an incorrect interpretation; as Gentle in the context of the Fruit of God’s Spirit is not quite the sense that they seek to convey. In the context of the Fruit, Gentle is rooted in the Greek, ”… ‘praýtēs’, which emphasizes the divine origin of meekness (“gentle strength”)”; that is, expressing “power with reserve and gentleness.” HELPS Word-Study further states: For the believer, meekness (“gentle-force”) begins with the Lord’s inspiration and finishes by His direction and empowerment. It is a divinely-balanced virtue that can only operate through faith (cf. 1 Tim 6:11; 2 Tim 2:22-25).”

Although Gentle in the Wisdom context is Spirit-derived; it is more concerned with Justice. HELPS Word-Study indicates that the Greek root “ epieikḗs (“justice beyond ordinary justice”) builds on the real intent (purpose) of what is really at stake (note the epi, “upon”) – and hence, is true equity that appropriately fulfills the spirit(not just the letter) of the law.” To say God’s Wisdom is always Gentle; is to say that it prioritizes Justice over Status, Bribery or Favoritism.

A wise one is thus able to blend and balance Peaceable living with Purity and Justice. Not a simple task in a world where corruption seems to hold sway and the hearts of humanity wax cold. It requires that we are truly IN this world, but not very attached to its precepts. Rather, we who seek Wisdom MUST be attuned to the One Whose Judgement is fair, yet merciful.

So where does that leave us who are already deeply enmeshed in the systems of this world? Whether we continue to seek God’s Wisdom; this is an opportunity to invite God’s intervention to extricate us from worldly ways; however subtle and insidious it may be in our lives. Romans 6:23 invites us to allow Sin ZERO access or leeway in our lives. With or without the pursuit of Wisdom.

Dear Lord; for all of us meditating on this Wisdom Walk, help us to stay focused and walk away from sinful paths. Guide us into Your Just counsel, by the power and anointing of Your Spirit. Hear our plea and heal us from sin’s deadly grip we pray in Jesus name amen.
