Can we be included in God’s creative process? Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

So from the onset, we know that there is God and there’s God’s Spirit, and BOTH existed at or before the beginning. That’s either way scary or very comforting. It may be scary to wrap our hearts around the idea of God being pre-Creation; and for those of us attempting to grasp the Trinity, well … But then, we might find comfort in knowing God’s been there all the time; well here actually.

Whichever emotional we experience, I hope we also note that God’s Spirit was present and ‘hovering’. In short, God’s Spirit, external to God’s own presence, was moving, ready to engage or be engaged. Isn’t that the nature of God’s Spirit, even today?

Just think, although the Ruach (Spirit or Pneuma) of God is currently with God, and in God’s presence, God’s Spirit is ‘hovering’, awaiting the moment to engage us. Yes, I know that we’re not waters; but I maintain that God’s Spirit is as present with and within us as was at the beginning. And when we combine ‘broody’ hovering Spirit of God with ‘Let there be’; we get ‘And it was.’

Of course, should we wish to make a slight metaphor in relation to our lives; we will note that we each had an amniotic sac with waters around us after God’s initial ‘Let there be’ called us into being. I believe that that is its own beautiful promise and proof of presence.

So here we are, decades later, and we still are. God’s Spirit is brooding, hovering; ready to continue with the Creative process. And this time we can choose to be included in God’s creative process. The question is – will we?

May all we seek be found in Christ
