Nougat 9

Hello

Every so often, I’m faced by situations which help me gain perspective on who God is and how God operates in our lives. One such name is El-Rohi. That was Hagar’s name for God during her wilderness experience. Today’s Holy Nougat invites us to consider another name for our amazing God

So David went to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. “The Lord did it!” David exclaimed. “He burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” So he named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord who bursts through”). 2 Samuel 5:20 NLT

That name!

Once, because Baal was included in the title, I was leery about accepting God’s name as Baal-perazim. However in thinking about the idiosyncrasies of language, and moreover that translation of God’s name, I realize that knowing God as One who goes before me and defeats my enemies is comforting. It is a very humbling experience (especially if your spirit is prone to warring); yet so gratifying. Remember, the Philistines had terrorized the Israelites for a while! Defeating them was not always easy.

But God!

Have you met God in that capacity? Experienced God as Breakthrough? When we have been blessed in that way, this Name takes on even greater significance.

May our God break through all our battles, securing victory for us in every situation.

What a name!

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
