Sometimes, seeing is believing. Until we have our very own experience, the reports of others carry little influence over us. And that’s fine for many things. Contrast the response of the Galileans in today’s Holy Nougat to some others we know of in the Bible and our contexts today.
“Yet the Galileans welcomed him, for they had been in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration and had seen everything he did there.” John 4:45 NLT
Jesus was one of their own, and miraculously, He seemed to be recognized by the Galileans. That is noteworthy, for we are often taken for granted by our own folks. I can think of several companies and organizations which would hire consultants to tell them what the staff had shared repeatedly. Or of incidents in my own life when I was barefaced enough to say, “well, when so-and-so said it, I know you were right.” (How offensive! Sorry folks).
But let’s not digress too much. Let’s consider our own beliefs about the Messiah.
Firstly, do we truly believe that Jesus is the Messiah? Why/not?
Do we believe based solely on our life experiences or based on the biblical accounts?
What do we truly believe Him to be capable of? Especially when we’re in a bind?
Based on our answers to those questions, how welcoming are we to Jesus and have we tried to get closer recently?
If seeing is believing, then I suspect we need to ‘see’ Jesus more and more in our daily routines. And having seen, ensure that others are able to do the same, based on our actions. In Christ’s love and grace . . .
