Blessed love to you and yours
Recently I’ve been preoccupied with sleep and sleep patterns, especially in relation to REM sleep and sleep apnea. Of course, this has been just cursory interest, as sleep has hardly ever proven elusive. How about you what’s your sleep pattern like? Do you snore, sleep with your mouth open or do any of those other embarrassing bits?
But what if you fell asleep in Jesus’ presence? I know I would be embarrassed.
Today’s Holy Nougat™ speaks to the very troubling matter of sleep
Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour? Matthew 26:40 NLT
Can you imagine? Those disciples were probably in fifth gear, drooling and dreaming;; and totally unaware of the weightiness of the times they were in? And they didn’t fall asleep once. Oh no. They fell asleep without intending to, and so do we.
The catch is, we may very well be failing to represent Christ even while we carry His name. Sin is sin is sin and it displeases God. There aren’t racial sins or gendered sins; whatever offends God remains offensive.
It’s true, our hearts might be committed to God, but we often pause to pursue the lusts of the flesh. Lord, help us. That ought to be our constant plea.
May our God, the Almighty God of justice and grace, be our strength for the journey.
Thanks for joining us.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
