They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem. 2 Corinthians 8:4
I can think of a few ministers who’d jump at the opportunity presented. Church folks Begging to share gifts with others. It indicates that the believers had been convicted about giving back to God , even to sharing with those in need. Perhaps they knew Psalm 24 … “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and they who dwell therein.”
What an understanding of Christian love and giving. For when we return to God a portion of what we’ve received, were acknowledging that it’s not all about us. In many cases, we encourage the tithe. It’s what the Lord speaks to in the Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, but a physical percentage is Not referenced in the Gospels. Rather, we are told in Matthew and mark to dedicate to God that which is God’s.
What about you? What do you consider as belonging to God?
Our Time? (1hr/wk)?
Our Talent? (gifts and skills which generate fame/income)?
Our Treasure? (often withheld if we’re at odds with the minister)?
Our Lives? (even harder to give as it means forfeiting control).
Might I suggest ALL of the above? And if you agree, you might be asking the Lord or your church how to give back so it is best maximised.
