Yesterday, we noted that the bread YHWH provided was not what they expected. As we pondered the implications, we also noted that they probably didn’t know how to prepare and partake of the bread. It seems important therefore to determine whether they received any instructions. That’s what we will reflect on as we consider Today’s Holy Nougat™️
Exodus 16:15-16 CEVDCI
[15] The people had never seen anything like this, and they started asking each other, “What is it?” Moses answered, “This is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.
[16] And he orders you to gather about two litres for each person in your family—that should be more than enough.”
More than Enough
As I reread our Nougat just now, I thought of prescriptions which often carry a warning on the label, ‘Use as Directed’. That labelling is often found on the packaging or on an insert that provides additional information about the prescriptions. The direction, provided by the pharmacist, comes from the doctor.
For the most part, we willingly the such medication without a murmur, as we are convinced that the doctor and the pharmacist know what they’re doing. Thus, even when we are unfamiliar with the side effects of the medication, we partake of it willingly, according to the dosage. In faith, we presume that the dosage is just right for our age, weight, and constitution in relation to what ails us.
Similarly, YHWH provided insights for the Children of Israel on this new bread that had been provided for them. Two litres per householder, no more, no less. It is straightforward. YHWH knew how much they needed.
Self-Check
Some of us have trouble adhering to a doctor’s prescription. If so, does it also include how we hear and heed YHWH?
Application
The direct application to our lives today is fairly simple. It’s already been framed in the Self-Check. If we willingly heed a doctor’s proposed solution for whatever ails us, then we should readily obey God’s plans for our lives.
By extending the medication analogy, we note then that God is our Physician, Christ is our Pharmacist, and God’s Spirit is our Prescription. God knows exactly what we need for each aspect of our lives. That’s why the Pauline writer assures us in Philippians 4:19, that God supplies all (not some, but all) of our needs according to God’s riches in Christ.
Hence we pray, asking God for our daily bread, which varies in nature according to our every situation. On some days, we might need more patience than gentleness, other days we need equal amounts of love and peace. Yet, we are guaranteed that God’s allotment of God’s Spirit us each day is more than enough for the situations that arise.
In sickness and contagion – God gives more than enough of God’s Spirit
In flood or famine – God gives more than enough of God’s Spirit
In pestilence and destruction – God gives more than enough of God’s Spirit
In conflict or abuse – God gives more than enough of God’s Spirit
In seasons of peace and joy – God gives more than enough of God’s Spirit
Point to Ponder
God in God’s Spirit is more than enough for all our needs. Will we take what we need of God’s Spirit today?

May all we seek be found in Christ
