Our Wisdom reflections continue in today’s Holy Nougat

“But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.” ‭‭James‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

At first blush, holding the nougat against the counsel of Solomon(1 Kings 3:16-28); it would be easy to wonder whether there was a mistake in saying Wisdom is Peace based. For, when Solomon called for a sword and indicated that he would split the infant; it doesn’t take Science or Political or Legal savvy to know that has NO part in Peace. But we must recall, and hold before us, the fact that Wisdom isn’t solely about acquiring knowledge and information. It is far more related to how we apply that knowledge we have acquired to seemingly impossible life situations.

Hence, the surface response is indeed non-peaceful. Especially when a child’s life was at stake! The fact is; that child’s life was already at stake!!! Jus think – one of the two mothers had already been dealing with SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) of her child, or something similar. Rational thought was probably not part of her equation.

Furthermore, the two women were both claiming maternal status. And while they were both mothers; only ONE was the legitimate mother. Those were the facts facing Solomon. He also knew, perhaps from his experience with his own mother, that most mothers would sacrifice anything for their children. Such is a mother’s love.

What he needed then was to find the trigger for the Love . The Pure Love that surfaces when a mother’s child is endangered. I agree, Solomon might have used another technique; but his tactic worked!

Wisdom does not always make visible sense to us in the natural; but it makes for Peace in the long term. And that’s a fact.

When we contemplate God’s Wisdom; it doesn’t add up! Especially when we are the one languishing in the midst of our child at death’s door, and our ‘opponent’ doesn’t seem to care. But we know from the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ; God’s only begotten Son, that God actually sacrificed God’s self, Jesus, for the sake of the ‘other son.

A dead son.

A son whose death dealing choice resulted in long term SIDS for ALL Humanity!

But God made the exchange! And ALL Humanity have a new lease on Life!

In most contexts; that is NOT Wisdom. It is Foolishness. Yet the Pauline epistle to Corinth tells us that God’s foolishness is Wiser than human Wisdom.(1 Corinthians 1:15).

Human Wisdom does not always equal sacrifice. But its end product ought to clear the path to Peace. As we reflect on Wisdom, as we seek Wisdom, let’s also thank God for God’s Wisdom that manifested in Jesus’ incarnation and earthly ministry. Especially beyond the grave.

May God’s wisdom enfold us with praise and gratitude beyond measure.

May all we seek be found in Christ
